Skitch is an extremely versatile tool. It is available for almost every platform. It is an app that allows you to take photos and annote or write on them. I initially became interested in Skitch as a way to help kindergartners begin to sound out words. Using Skitch, students would snap pictures of objects in our classroom. Then they would use the app to label their photos. They might snap a picture of a desk and use their writing strategies, and the fun stickers and arrows to label their photos. Then they could print out the pictures and take them home to explain to their parents how they used the strategies to write the labels. Because we were past that when we got iPads to use the the classroom, I have not used the app in this way. But I do use the app daily in different ways, including on this blog (see photo in Epic post).
One of the ways I use is is to take attendance everyday. I have my students sign in on a Skitch photo I took of a table that includes all of their names. They use the face stickers to put a silly face in their box when they come in every morning.
I also use it for writing and editing together. I have recreated a writing we did and the way we edited it using Skitch with mirroring to my Apple TV.
