Nearpod is an excellent application for guiding your students through a lesson. As the teacher, you control what the students see on their devices. You can create interactive slideshows where students get to engage with the content in a variety of ways. They can take quizzes, do fill in the blank activities, view web content in a controlled environment (they cannot visit websites not pre-curated by you) and much more! As students interact, you can see all that they are doing on your screen. It they take a quiz, you can see their answers in real time. You are then able to address concerns immediately. You can also share student work immediately with the class. If you choose share, it will show students corrected problems immediately so that they can see what they got wrong. You can also choose to send a specific student's work to everyone's device for discussion, comparison and contrast. This is done anonymously. Nearpod does take a little bit of pre-planning, but you save time on the other end by having student work immediately graded and reported to you. You can create your slides in Google slides and use the Nearpodize extension to automatically format your lesson for Nearpod.
Socrative
Imagine Nearpod, without the same level of preplanning. Using Socrative, you just enter the quiz portion into the program. You don't have to have all of the lesson slides. Don't have time for that? Create a quiz on the fly by asking the questions out loud and having students respond on the device. You can even enter your class into a Space Race challenge against one another.
